Edgbaston Cricket Ground’s Head Chef, Dave Hill has been announced as the winner of Waitrose’s Cricket Cook Off.
Overseen by Waitrose,sponsors of England cricket, and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the competition saw Levy Restaurants UK’s chef, compete against nine rival international cricket grounds across the country.
Participants were briefed to create a summer dish inspired by their region before presenting it to an expert panel at the Waitrose Cookery School in London.
Judges included former England cricketer, journalist and ECB selector, Angus Fraser; 2010 MasterChefwinner, Dhruv Baker and Chef and Course Manager, Waitrose Cookery School, Gordon McDermott.
Following the judges votes, it was the public that ultimately decided who was crowned ‘King of the Cook Off’. Waitrose encouraged its customers to create the dishes themselves; competitor recipes featured on recipe cards available in stores and the chefs demonstrated their dishes through short videos presented on the Waitrose website. Viewers could also cast their vote with the chance to win a signed cricket bat from the England squad.
Dave’s recipe impressed both audiences with his Thai-style tiger prawns with rice noodles, encompassing the fresh flavours of Asia to complement the summer season of cricket.
Dave represents Edgbaston Experience Ltd (EEL), a 12-year-long partnership where Levy Restaurants UK provides retail and hospitality food service at Edgbaston Stadium.
