Somerset House is one of London’s finest arts and culture venues, attracting 2.5 million visitors every year.

When Levy Restaurants UK was asked to create a tailor-made dining experience for its guests, we were delighted to serve up an entirely new brand to suit this iconic destination.

Tom's Kitchen at Somerset House, from Michelin star winning chef Tom Aikens, is a rustic, informal British restaurant serving comfort classics, with a deli for food lovers on the go, and a river-view terrace in summer months classed among the city’s most popular al fresco bars.

Tom’s Events provides tailor-made experience packages, from site tours to menu tastings, to attract audience groups to exhibitions, including Valentino, Isabella Blow and more.

Driving up event revenue

Working with our partner’s own team, we’ve increased event revenue at Somerset House from £0.25m to almost £1m in the past five years.

To secure sponsorship for the venue, we often source products not on standard supplier lists. For instance, adding Coach branding to products gained the brand’s backing for Somerset’s renowned ice rink in winter 2013.

Other sponsors signed include specific Bordeaux wines for the Film4 Summer Series (2012 and 2013), Estrella Dam for the El Bulli Exhibition, and Heineken for summer 2014.

Our innovation and ideas have also driven up event revenues. Funding a pop-up champagne bar in the Christmas Arcade raised an extra £17,000 in just seven weeks.

Raising awareness

Throughout the year, Tom’s Kitchen marketing helps raise awareness of Somerset House and its events, creating fresh income opportunities.

We’re busy spreading the word on email and social media, hosting open day showcases, and running ‘Square Meal’ client sampling events. We also provide regular content on seasonal menus and special offers for the venue’s website.

Visitors to Somerset House are discerning and expect consistency in product and service standards. Our partners expect the same, plus the flexibility to meet their needs.

We’ve built a great relationship with the Somerset House team, doing our utmost to answer their wishes and provide a uniquely personal service.

This commitment, the fantastic word of mouth it’s generated, and the significant uplift in sales seen since the Tom’s Events brand was introduced have helped us become the most popular panel caterer on the venue’s list.
